Accessories for the KTM 890 SMT

The KTM 890 SMT brings a supermoto approach to road riding, with a touring side that makes longer trips part of its appeal. A day on twisting roads and a weekend away place different demands on your setup. Useful additions therefore balance support for active riding with wind protection and somewhere to carry your overnight kit.

What riders usually fit to the KTM 890 SMT

• Screens: the journey to a favourite stretch of bends can involve plenty of fast, open roads. A screen helps manage the airflow reaching your body, making wind protection a worthwhile priority when your SMT rides regularly include motorway links or longer touring days.
• Luggage: carrying clothes and travelling essentials on the bike rather than your back suits the 890 SMT’s touring role. For weekends away, think about the kit you actually need; travelling with a pillion also means allowing room for a second person’s belongings.
• Footpegs: your feet provide important support as you move through a sequence of bends. On the SMT, that makes the contact between boot and peg relevant to active road riding, while longer days also put the emphasis on a comfortable footing over time.
• Crash bungs and bars: these can help limit damage in some low-speed falls. They are a practical consideration for touring, when frequent stops, unfamiliar parking areas and manoeuvring with luggage create different challenges from riding along an open road.
• Phone mounts: keeping navigation in view is useful when a ride takes you over unfamiliar passes and through smaller roads between towns. That fits the SMT’s mix of exploring and covering distance. Set your route before leaving and stop somewhere safe to make changes.

For shorter rides focused on bends, concentrate on your contact points and protection. As the journeys get longer, wind coverage and luggage space become more important parts of the setup.
