Accessories for the Yamaha XJ900S Diversion

The Yamaha XJ900S Diversion suits road touring as well as everyday journeys, so useful additions tend to centre on riding position, protection and carrying luggage. A weekend away makes different demands from the daily commute, but both favour practical equipment. The right priorities depend on how long you spend riding, what you need to carry and whether you regularly take a pillion.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha XJ900S Diversion

• Handlebars: hand position affects the way your arms and back settle on a longer ride. For a Diversion used for regular road trips, handlebars are worth considering when adapting the riding position to suit you, rather than treating them simply as a styling change.
• Crash bars and protectors: these are practical additions for a bike used for commuting and loaded touring alike. Depending on their design, they can help limit damage to the areas they cover in a stationary drop, including when manoeuvring into a parking space during a trip.
• Luggage: carrying clothes and other essentials becomes a priority when a day ride turns into a few nights away. On the Diversion, luggage also makes sense for shared trips where you need room for a pillion’s belongings, or for carrying what you need at work.
• Covers: a cover is useful when your touring plans include overnight stops without sheltered parking. It also has a role between everyday journeys if the Diversion lives outdoors, providing a way to keep it covered while it is not being ridden.

Choosing parts for the 1994 and 1995-2003 versions

The Yamaha XJ900S Diversion has changed over the years, so the 1994 and 1995-2003 versions do not always take the same accessories. Handlebars and protectors are examples of parts that are not interchangeable across every year. Choose your bike’s year on this page to narrow the selection to accessories that fit your particular Diversion.
