Accessories for the Yamaha XT660R

The Yamaha XT660R is a trail bike suited to a mixture of road riding and dirt tracks. How you divide your time between them makes a difference to the accessories worth fitting. Luggage and wind protection are useful for commuting and longer road rides, while regular outings on loose surfaces put more emphasis on protection and a comfortable standing riding position.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha XT660R

• Handlebars: hand position matters when you switch between sitting down on the road and standing on the pegs along a track. For the XT660R, think about both riding positions rather than choosing a handlebar solely around your daily commute.
• Crash bars and protectors: a sensible consideration if your XT660R regularly leaves the tarmac. They help limit damage to the areas they cover during low-speed falls, making protection particularly relevant for rides over uneven ground.
• Footrests: your footing becomes more important when riding standing up on dirt tracks. For this side of the XT660R’s use, consider the support offered underfoot and how the footrests work with the boots you wear on those rides.
• Screens: useful when longer road journeys take priority. A screen helps reduce wind pressure on your upper body, making it a relevant addition for stretches between towns rather than an accessory focused on off-road riding.
• Luggage: gives you somewhere to carry everyday essentials or belongings for a weekend away without putting everything in a backpack. It makes particular sense when the same XT660R handles both the journey to work and leisure trips.

Choosing accessories for your XT660R’s year

The XT660R has changed over the years, with versions covering 2004-2006, 2007 and 2008-2016. As a result, parts such as handlebars do not fit every version. Choose your bike’s year on this page to see only the accessories that fit yours.
