Accessories for the Yamaha YZ250FX

The Yamaha YZ250FX is an off-road bike suited to enduro and cross-country riding. Moving between seated and standing positions, working through ruts and picking a line over uneven ground all shape what is worth fitting. Accessories should support the way you handle the bike or help protect it from knocks, rather than get in the way when you need to move around. Your usual terrain is a useful starting point for deciding what deserves attention first.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha YZ250FX

• Mirrors: For group rides on tracks, mirrors can help you keep an eye on riders behind when the terrain allows. They are less of a priority if your YZ250FX is used solely for technical practice. Their position matters on this kind of bike: you need space to move forwards and stand up without a mirror getting in your way.
• Protectors: Ruts, stones and narrow sections make protection a practical consideration for a bike ridden away from tarmac. On the YZ250FX, protectors can help limit damage from contact with obstacles and minor falls, particularly on technical routes. Each piece covers a particular area, so its value depends on where your riding tends to expose the bike to knocks.
• Levers: Linking loose-surface bends and negotiating slow sections means repeatedly working the clutch and front brake. A comfortable contact point for your fingers helps you operate the controls as your riding position changes. On this Yamaha, levers deserve attention if a fall has left the existing ones damaged or awkward to use during more demanding off-road riding.
