Yamaha YZF-R6 accessories for road rides and track days

The Yamaha YZF-R6 is a sports bike suited to winding-road rides and track days, where the way you sit and move on the bike shapes your choice of accessories. Wind protection and the contact points at your hands and feet deserve particular attention. A road-going R6 also has different priorities from one used for circuit sessions, so start with how you actually spend your time riding.

What riders usually fit to the Yamaha YZF-R6

• Screens: help manage airflow when you tuck in behind them. On the R6, consider the coverage you need in a crouched riding position, rather than expecting the upright shelter associated with a touring bike.
• Levers: put the brake and clutch controls within comfortable reach of your fingers. Their shape and reach matter when working the controls from a forward-leaning position, whether braking for a road bend or riding repeated laps.
• Footrests: support your feet as you shift your weight through corners. For track use, a secure point of contact is especially useful; on longer road rides, the amount of bend at your knees also deserves attention.
• Protectors: can help limit damage to the areas they cover if the bike falls. They are worth considering for an R6 used in the paddock and on circuit, though no protector can prevent every kind of crash damage.
• Mirrors: remain a priority for an R6 ridden on public roads. A useful rearward view from the sports riding position matters more than appearance alone, particularly when moving between town traffic and open roads.
