Puig Engine Guards

Puig crash bars, sold in some markets as engine guards, are black tubular steel frames that encircle the engine and fix to the chassis of one specific model. Within the brand's protection range they are the toughest option: where a slider covers a single point, a crash bar shields the whole side of the engine, which is why they are mostly fitted to bikes without a fairing.

Where they make most sense

• BMW boxers: the cylinders stick out on each side and are the first thing to touch the ground. There are crash bars for the R 1200 GS, R 1250 GS and its Adventure, R 1200 R and RS, R nineT and the new R 12.
• Mid-size adventure bikes: F 650, 700, 750, 800 and 850 GS, Ténéré 700, V-Strom 650 and 800DE, Tiger 900, 390 Adventure or CB500X and NX500.
• Customs: Vulcan S, Rebel 500 and 1100, CL 500, Indian Scout, Nightster and Sportster S, where they also shape the bike's style.
• Everyday bikes: NC750X, Versys 650, Tracer 7 or X-ADV, very common in town, where knocks tend to happen at a standstill or while manoeuvring.

Before you choose

Some bikes have more than one crash bar depending on the years or the design, such as the Ténéré 700, with one part number for 2019-2020 and another for 2019-2024, or the F 750 and 850 GS. Compare both product pages before deciding. For what a crash bar does not cover, such as the fairing of a naked bike or the engine covers, the rest of the brand's protection is in Puig frame sliders.
