Puig Frame Sliders

With Puig frame sliders, when the bike goes over, the scrape is taken by a puck bolted to the frame or engine rather than by the fairing, tank or engine cases. Puig makes them in several lines with different looks and, alongside them, builds engine case covers and crash bars. This page, which many riders reach by searching for crash protectors or crash bobbins, helps you choose between them all; each part is made for a specific model and years.

Puig's slider lines

• R19: a discreet nylon cylinder finished with a rubber cap. It is the line with the most models, from 125s to superbikes, and the one that changes the look of the bike least. You will find them all under Puig R19 frame sliders.
• PRO 2.0: race-styled, with side fins and interchangeable rubbers in five colours, for nakeds and sports bikes. They are grouped under PRO 2.0 sliders.
• Vintage 2.0: a classic shape for neo-retros, scramblers and light customs such as the Rebel, Z650RS or XSR900, gathered in Vintage 2.0 sliders. Its predecessor, the Vintage, is still available for the Bonneville, Ducati Scrambler, XSR700 or Z900RS.
• R12 and Opie: the R12 is an earlier line that remains for the odd model, such as the 2003-2005 YZF-R6, and the Opie is a custom-style slider for Harley-Davidson.

Choosing between them is mainly a question of looks and of which line exists for your bike. What does change from one model to the next is where the slider is fixed, which depends on each frame's design, and that is why every bike has its own part number.

Engine case covers

In a sideways fall, the first thing to hit the tarmac on many nakeds and sports bikes is an engine cover: the alternator, clutch or ignition cover. If it cracks, oil escapes and the bike goes nowhere. Puig's engine case covers bolt over the originals to take that scrape, and they are made for bikes such as the MT-09, Z900, CB650R, GSX-S1000, 990 Duke or R 1300 GS. The Track series is designed for sports bikes used on circuits, such as the R1, R6, CBR600RR, ZX-10R, Panigale V4, S 1000 RR or RS 660; many championships make it compulsory to cover the cases that hold oil.

When you need more: crash bars

A slider protects a single point. For adventure bikes, customs and bikes with wide engines, such as BMW boxers, Puig also offers tubular crash bars that surround the engine and take a tip-over or a tumble on a gravel track better; there are versions for the R 1250 GS, Ténéré 700, Versys 650, Vulcan S or Nightster. And for the other points that touch the ground, Puig fork and swingarm sliders complete the protection around the wheels.

Spares after a fall

A slider that has done its job ends up scratched or chewed, but often you do not need to replace the whole set: Puig sells its wear parts separately.

• PRO 2.0: rubber sets in black, grey, blue, red or green, and nylon pucks in M10 or M12.
• R19: rubber caps and nylon-and-rubber sets for M10 or M12 bolts, 50 or 85 mm.
• Vintage: rubber rings in blue, white, grey, red or green, which also let you change colour.
• Earlier PRO series: rubbers and plastic caps.

After a hard knock, check the bolt and mounting point as well: a bent bolt cannot be straightened, it has to be replaced. The general guide to choosing and fitting a slider, whatever the brand, is in frame sliders and engine guards, and the brand's full range is under Puig.
