Motorcycle footrest

Motorcycle footpegs are where your weight goes: you load them as you tip into a corner, stand on them on a gravel track and rest on them for hours on a long trip. Swapping the stock pegs improves boot grip, gives you a wider platform or more clearance before they touch down when you lean, and adds a touch of colour to the bike. This section brings together footpegs and footrests from Puig, SW-Motech, Rizoma and Customacces, for rider and pillion.

What you gain over the stock pegs

• Grip: a serrated or toothed surface holds the sole better, especially in the wet or in mud.
• Width: a broader platform spreads the pressure across your foot, which you will notice when riding stood up or on long days in the saddle.
• Length: a peg shorter than the original takes longer to scrape the tarmac when you lean the bike over.
• Looks: anodised aluminium in black, silver, gold, red, blue, green, orange, lilac or titanium lets you match them to your levers, caps or bar ends.

A footpeg for every kind of bike

On sports and naked bikes, compact pegs rule: the Puig Racing, shorter than many stock pegs, the Sport and the R-Fighter, coloured all over, or the R-Fighter S, with colour only on the sides. Rizoma adds its machined aluminium Snake, Extreme and Escape pegs.

On adventure and off-road bikes the priority is a wide, toothed platform for standing up in off-road boots. That is what the Puig Enduro 2.0 and Trail 2.0 offer, as do the Puig off-road footpegs and the SW-Motech ION and EVO kits for the Ténéré 700, Transalp, R 1300 GS, DesertX or Tiger 1200.

For classics and neo-retros, Puig makes the clean-lined Vintage and Heritage pegs, and for cruisers Customacces offers chrome pillion floorboards.

How each brand mounts them

These replace the pegs themselves rather than a full rearset, and an aftermarket peg never bolts straight onto the frame: each maker handles the mounting differently. Puig keeps the peg, which is shared across many bikes, apart from the part that joins it to yours; with that part you can keep the original position or move it, as we explain on the footpeg adapters page. Rizoma uses a mounting kit for each model, and SW-Motech sells every set as a complete package for one specific bike, as you will see among the SW-MOTECH footpegs.

Puig states German ABE approval for its footpegs, and all of its ranges, with colours and part numbers, are gathered under Puig footrests.

Before you order

• Side: on many bikes the rider and pillion mounts differ, so check which side each part number is for.
• Controls: if you raise or move the peg back, make sure the gear selector and rear brake are still within easy reach of your boot.
• Use: if the bike often goes off the tarmac, put width and teeth first; if it lives on the road, go for feel and a profile that will not ground out.

To carry on with the rest of the cockpit, our motorcycle accessories include levers, grips, bar ends and handlebars.
