Accessories for the Kawasaki Z800

The Kawasaki Z800 is a naked bike suited to winding roads as well as everyday commuting. Those two uses put different demands on your setup: open-road riding brings wind exposure into focus, while traffic means frequent clutch work and low-speed manoeuvres. Screens, protection and changes to the riding position therefore offer a practical starting point before you turn to styling details.

What riders usually fit to the Kawasaki Z800

• Screens: help deflect some of the airflow you face on an unfaired bike. If reaching your favourite roads involves a stretch of motorway, a screen has a clearer role than it would on a Z800 used mainly for short trips across town.
• Crash bungs and crash bars: are intended to limit damage to particular areas in a fall. For a Z800 used throughout the working week, parking and slow manoeuvres are good reasons to consider protection, rather than treating it solely as something for weekend riding.
• Handlebars: influence where your hands sit and how far you lean forwards. When your Z800 needs to handle both commuting and twisty roads, the aim is a riding position that avoids unnecessary wrist strain while leaving you comfortable during tight, low-speed turns.
• Levers: deserve attention if your journeys involve repeated clutch use in traffic. Adjusting the reach to suit your hands can make the controls easier to work with, giving this change a more practical purpose than simply adding a different finish to the cockpit.
• Number plate holders: are a common styling choice for a cleaner-looking rear end that suits the Z800’s naked-bike character. Their main contribution is visual, so they serve a different purpose from a screen or changes intended to make your riding position more comfortable.
