Puig fork and swingarm sliders

Puig fork and swingarm sliders from the PHB19 line are bobbins that fit on the ends of the wheel spindles. In a low-side, they are what touches the tarmac and slides, instead of the fork legs, the brake calipers, the end of the swingarm or the chain adjusters. Front and rear spindle sliders are sold separately, and ideally you fit both.

Where each one works

Fork sliders

They fit on both sides of the front spindle. When a bike goes down, after the bars and the engine it usually rests on the spindle ends: with a slider there, the fork bottoms and calipers are not dragged along the ground, and what you replace afterwards is the slider, not a suspension or brake part. They are among the first accessories fitted to sports bikes such as the ZX-10R, Fireblade, S 1000 RR or ZX-4R, and to nakeds such as the Z900, MT-09 or CB750 Hornet.

Swingarm sliders

They go on the rear spindle, one each side, and look after the end of the swingarm, the rear caliper and the adjusters. There are models for the MT-07 and MT-09 and their spin-offs, Ténéré 700, GSX-8S, RS 660, several BMWs and Ducatis, the Voge 900DSX and the TMAX.

Material and fitting

The bobbin is nylon, a material that slides and wears away rather than passing the impact on to the spindle. The body is black and takes coloured anodised aluminium rings, sold separately, to match the rest of the bike.

They mount on the spindle itself, so you need to loosen or remove the spindle nut and, when you are done, tighten it to the torque in your manual. If your bike has an ABS sensor on that wheel, check that the slider does not touch the tone ring or the cable. And watch the years: the spindle or forks change between generations of the same model, and the part number changes with them.

The rest of your crash protection

PHB19 sliders look after the wheels and what surrounds them; the engine and frame are covered by Puig frame sliders and, from other brands, by the main frame sliders and engine guards section. If you swap your Puig chain adjusters, remember they share the spindle with the swingarm slider. For shaft-drive BMW GS models, Puig also makes swingarm protector kits that cover the arm itself. Other protection and parts from the brand are in the Puig section.
