Puig Skid Plates

The crankcase and the headers are the lowest part of the engine, and on an adventure bike they are exposed to stones, stumps and steps on the trail. The Puig skid plate is an aluminium plate that covers that area from below, and it comes in black or silver for each model. According to Puig, its base is flat and has openings for drainage and cooling.

What it protects and what it does not

It protects the underside of the engine from impacts that come from below: a loose stone, a hard bump, a change of level on a track. It does not protect the sides. In a fall it is other parts that stop the engine and frame being damaged, such as crash bars or the Puig frame sliders, and it is normal on an adventure bike to run both.

Before you order

Choose by model and year, because the plate follows the shape of the crankcase and exhaust of each generation: the R 1300 GS has several part numbers depending on the version. If you already run engine guards, check on the product page whether both parts coexist without sharing mounting points. It is designed for dirt tracks and trails; if your riding is very demanding off-road, ask us first through the website chat. The brand's other protection parts and accessories are in Puig.
